How much is a fertility test in Ireland?
How much is a fertility test in Ireland? At NeoFertility, our clinic in Sandyford, Dublin, an AMH blood test is EUR 80, a Day 3 blood profile is EUR 250 and a 7 DPO blood test is EUR 50 per test. If you've been told your bloods were normal and nobody could say why you're not pregnant, it helps to know what a properly timed set of tests involves. It helps to know what each part costs before you pick up the phone. So here they are, one by one.
How much is a fertility test in Ireland? A test-by-test list
Prices are per test, in euro. This page covers the tests only. The treatment plan and its cost are on our clinic pricing page.
- AMH blood test, EUR 80. AMH is a marker of ovarian reserve. It reflects the pool of small follicles in your ovaries.
- Day 3 blood profile, EUR 250. FSH, LH, prolactin, TSH and DHEA, taken once, on days 2 to 5 of your cycle. It gives us your baseline before ovulation.
- 7 DPO blood test, EUR 50 per test. Oestradiol and progesterone, taken on one of four days, 6 to 9 days after your identified peak day. This is where the quality of your ovulation shows up.
- Three-point glucose and insulin test, EUR 200. The test we use to look for insulin resistance, which we check in every woman with PMOS (PCOS).
- Female adrenal fatigue test, EUR 140. Salivary cortisol and DHEA, so we can see how your adrenal glands are doing.
- Natural killer cell test, EUR 200. CD16 and CD56, a look at natural killer cell activity, which is an immune marker.
- Thrombophilia screen, EUR 480. That's a mouthful, but it just means a screen for clotting disorders.
The first three are where we start. Your doctor recommends anything beyond them based on your history and on what those first results show, so most women don't need every test on this list.
AMH test cost: EUR 80, and what to do with the result
The AMH test is one blood draw, and it tells us about the size of the follicle pool you're working from. What it doesn't tell us is how this month's follicle is behaving. That's what the Day 3 profile and the 7 DPO test are for, and it's why we read the three together rather than leaving you with a single number.
If your AMH has come back low, our page on low AMH explains what the result does and doesn't mean.
Your results, the fertility consultation and receipts
Results are reviewed with a doctor at the fertility consultation. It's 45 minutes and costs EUR 300, and it's refundable with two working days' notice. You don't need a GP referral, and it stands on its own: there's no obligation to continue into a treatment plan, and no decision to make on the day. You take everything home and decide in your own time.
We ask that both partners attend where possible. We start charting with ChartNeo before the first appointment where possible, so the first set of bloods already has your cycle behind it.
We can issue individual receipts, corresponding to appointment dates, which patients may submit to their insurer.
Booking a fertility test
You can contact the clinic to book a fertility consultation, and you don't need a referral from your GP. The tests are arranged through that consultation, and the AMH test is booked together with it. The Day 3 profile belongs to the start of your cycle and the 7 DPO test to the days after ovulation. So these tests are timed to your cycle. The 7 DPO date comes from your chart, which is one more reason we like to start charting early.
Male testing is arranged for couples on the treatment plan, and you can read how it works on our men's fertility page.
